It helps if I see a substantial 'no obligation' chunk – say a couple of chapters and some kind of synopsis – before giving an estimate of whether the
£6-7 rate is enough.
I edit on-screen so an e-mail attachment in Word is all I need. I use Track Changes so you can see from the redlined version what changes I've made and decide whether you accept them. I can edit from a .pdf but doing so is more difficult, and the rate per 1000 words would have to be negotiated.
I usually keep a log and regularly keep the author informed of progress.
